Lashing Points

Lashing Rings from Tensys Direct

Sturdy lashing points are essential for ensuring the safe transport of goods in vans, trucks, trailers and containers. Your chains or straps won't do much good without anything to fasten them to!

Here at Tensys Direct, we offer a selection of high-strength lashing rings to help you secure your cargo and comply with EN 12640 requirements

What Is EN 12640?

EN 12640 is the British standard for lashing points on commercial vehicles for goods transportation.

To achieve EN 12640 compliance, your lashing points must adhere to several parameters stated in BS EN 12640:2019. These parameters include:

  • How the lashing point is designed and constructed
  • The number of lashing points required for your operation
  • The positioning of your lashing points along your vehicle

Each of these parameters is dependent upon your vehicle’s length, the distane between the lashing points, and how much weight your vehicle can legally carry.

If you have any questions about the rules for lashing points, please don't hesitate to contact Tensys Direct and a member of our team will be happy to help.

Lashing Point FAQs

  • Are lashing points different from lifting points?
  • Yes, lashing points and lifting points are different: lifting points are designed for vertical, heavy lifting with cranes or hoists and lashing points secure loads horizontally during transportation in vehicles to prevent movement.

  • How many lashing points do I need for my load?
  • The number of required lashing points often depends on your specific load, the vehicle and the securing method.

Trucks often need a minimum of four approved lashing points on each side of the vehicle for sea transport. Trailers often need 22 lashing points for a 13.6-meter length, with specific spacing requirements.

  • Should I inspect my lashing points before use?
  • Yes, lashing points should be inspected before each use for damage, bending, cracks, corrosion, or excessive dirt that could lead to accidents or load failure. By inspecting your lashing points before use, you can not only avoid significant load failures, accidents and injuries, but also extend the service life of your equipment!
