Although '3000kg ratchet straps' and '3 tonne ratchet straps' are commonly used as descriptors for the above products, this does not mean that these straps can safely restrain a load weighing three tonnes. This figure actually represents the strap's minimum breaking force (BFmin for short), i.e. the amount of force required to break a new strap under controlled test conditions. Minimum breaking force is measured in decanewtons (daN) but since 1daN is roughly equal to 1kg, the terms '3000kg' and '3000daN' may be used more or less interchangeably here.
